That is to say that we are one of the few accredited schools in International Baccalaureate in Cali.
Being part of one of the accredited schools in International Baccalaureate in Cali, as ours is, has many advantages: studying in an IB school represents the opportunity to access a leading institution in the education sector at the international level, where students, parents, teachers, and collaborators resonate with the IB philosophy, focused on the international mindset, accessing a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that encourages curiosity and inquiry in the student, as well as the possibility of having a training platform that stimulates leadership, creativity and integral excellence.
What is the IB Diploma Program?
Being one of the accredited schools in International Baccalaureate in Cali, we present the IB Diploma Program. The IB Diploma Program (PD for its acronym in Spanish), aimed at young people aged 16 to 19, is a rigorous and balanced educational program with final exams, which serves as an excellent preparation for college and adult life. It is designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical dimensions of the wellbeing of students. The program has the recognition and respect of prestigious universities around the world.
The Diploma Program, offered thanks to the fact that we are one of the accredited schools in International Baccalaureate in Cali, prepares students to participate effectively in an increasingly globalized society that evolves rapidly, as they develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically. They extend and deepen their knowledge and understanding, taking subjects from six groups.
Therefore they develop skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education. They also study at least two languages and increase their understanding of cultures, including their own. They also establish connections between traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the Theory of Knowledge course, which is exclusive to the program. Meanwhile, they enhance their personal and interpersonal development through Creativity, Action and Service. They also conduct an exhaustive research on an area of interest from the perspective of one or several academic disciplines through the Monograph. The above, are just some of the many benefits that our institution can offer thanks to the fact of being part of the accredited schools in International Baccalaureate in Cali.
Mandatory components of the Diploma Program:
With the Monograph, students conduct an independent research through the in-depth study of a subject related to one of the subjects of the Diploma Program they are studying. The thematic option of Contemporary World Studies allows students to concentrate their monograph on a topic of global relevance from the perspective of at least two subjects of the Diploma Program.
Theory of Knowledge develops a coherent way of approaching learning, which unifies the different academic areas. In this critical thinking course, students inquire about the nature of knowledge and deepen its understanding as a human construction.
Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) involves students in a variety of activities simultaneously with the study of the academic disciplines of the Diploma Program. The area of creativity encourages students to get involved in the arts and use creative thinking. The area of action seeks to develop a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. The area of service to the community is a means that leads to new learning with academic value. The three CAS areas foster personal and interpersonal development of students through experiential learning and offer them a pathway to personal discovery.
Appraisal and Exams
The International Baccalaureate assesses the work of the students as a direct proof of their level of achievement with respect to the objectives established for the Diploma Program courses. PD assessment procedures measure the extent to which students master advanced academic skills to meet these objectives, such as: analysis and presentation of information, evaluation and reasoning, creative problem solving. Basic skills including retention of knowledge, understanding of key concepts and application of standard methods are also assessed. The student’s results are determined by measuring their performance in relation to previously established standards, and not with respect to the work of other students.
Admission to College
In higher education institutions around the world, students are admitted for having received an IB Diploma, and many have specific policies and guidelines for the admission of IB students. Admission criteria vary greatly from one education system to another and depend on the degree of selectivity of the institution.
Las investigaciones indican que existen numerosas ventajas al escoger el PD. El programa tiene como objetivo formar alumnos que logren una excelente amplitud y profundidad en sus conocimientos, al tiempo que crezcan física, intelectual, emocional y éticamente.
